Would Big3 Failure Lead to Depression?

We've heard the threats.  Er, warnings, rather, that if any of the "Big 3" automakers were allowed to fail our economy would be instantly thrust into a new "great" depression.  Do you believe that?  Have you given it any significant thought?  The potential loss of millions of jobs is certainly sobering.  However, the demise of any of these “big3″ automakers would not be the CAUSE of anything. It would be the RESULT of something. It would not “lead to” a depression, but it could, possibly, be the result of one.

However, it could also be the result of one or more of several other factors. The fact is, fewer people are buying new cars right now - some say 1/3 fewer than a year ago. Certain things must take place for a company to survive such a drop in sales, and any company that continues to maintain its higher-level costs during a period of significantly reduced revenues WILL FAIL. Costs must be maintained at levels below revenues in order to survive.  Borrowing money to float through the revenue reduction period will only work if the revenues return to higher levels or if costs are cut below revenue levels, otherwise where will the money come from to repay the loans?

Now, the real question is… will the UAW allow GM, Ford, and Chrysler to reduce their costs enough to survive the period of reduced demand? You know, like Toyota, Honda, Nissan, et al. have.

Jack Cafferty Seethes Hatred Toward Palin

Chambliss (right) said that Palin had a huge impact on his win. (PHOTO CREDIT: AP PHOTO)

In an attempt to appear to be reporting news yesterday, CNN's Jack Cafferty reported on Chambliss' Georgia victory - sort of. After two paragraphs about the win, he spent the next several minutes degrading Palin, and bringing Georgians down with her.

"Georgia's a taylor-made state for her", say's Cafferty, after refering to Ms. Palin as "The hockey mom-turned-Alaska governor-turned vice presidential candidate-turned national joke...". On the air, seeking viewer involvement, he posed the question to his blogoshere, "What does Saxby Chambliss’s win in Georgia mean for Sarah Palin who went there to campaign for him?" He later read several responses to the question, which was posted on Cafferty's blog.

Wow, Jack, stop beating around the bush already and tell us how you really feel!

I'm not afraid of these people in the least, but I seek to understand this obsession, and the ramifications of this obsessive attitude are of significant concern. What is it about Sarah Palin that makes them hate her so much that they're still grasping at opportunities to defame her even a full month after she and McCain were defeated for the U.S. Executive positions? That's rhetorical - I do know the pat answers about how stupid she is, etc., but none of that holds any water. The obvious truth is that those who hate Sarah hate her because she is a firm representative of what they call the "religious right", those "right-wing", conservative Christian types who actually believe in an Almighty God, the existence of a spirit realm, and the possibility that a flood once covered the earth.

This falls right in line with Chevy Chase's comment, "...we must descimate this woman", Matt Damon's comments, and many others. Remember, Rosie O'Donnell believes that "radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam...".

The reason this concerns me is this: Do you personally believe in an Almighty God? Do you believe in a spirit realm? Heaven? Hell? The great Flood? The Messiah, or Christ? Do you go to church regularly? If the answer to any of these is yes, then Sarah Palin embodies allot of what you stand for, and her enemies are fully obsessed with her public destruction. So how do you think they view your life, your worth, and your beliefs? How long will it be until you are no longer permitted to speak freely and openly about your spiritual beliefs? Do you think that if she were a more eloquent speaker, or perhaps if her daughter weren't pregnant, or perhaps if she had aborted her youngest child, that these people would like her better?  If you review her speeches, you will find that she is not nearly as unintelligent as her accusers would say, and that, ironically, it's actually Tina Fey's fictional character they envision when they think of Sarah Palin and not Sarah Palin, herself, at all.

If these people are this obsessed, which the obviously are, how long will it be until their seething emoting will be turned directly toward you?  How long until their hatred of all things Christian are written into legislation that directly affects the lives of those with whom they disagree?
